Today morning, Tuesday 16 October 2008, at around 11:00, dozens of the Islamic Bloc's students broke into Al-Azhar University after destroying the main gate's lock.
They went upstairs inside the administration building, especially the 1st floor where the offices of the University's President and secretary are located.
They broke the glass of door windows and destroyed a number of desks.

A sound of an explosion was heard inside the University, which is believed to be as a result of throwing a sound bomb.
At that time, the University's administration called the police.
A large force of police arrived to the scene and managed to evacuate its premises and prevented people from passing in front of its premises.
Police arrested Muhammad Abu Sido, a photojournalist, and Muhammad Azza'aneen, a sound technician, both of Ramatan Press Agency, while they were covering a workshop undertaken in the Red Crescent building opposite to the University premises.

Police also arrested Mustapha Ibrahim, a researcher of the Independent Commission for Human Rights, while he was covering the clashes inside the University.
The three were held for half an hour at the office of the director of the Police Media Office inside the Jawazat (Police headquarters) in central Gaza.
All of them were released later.
