At 4pm on Sunday, 12 August 2018, Israeli forces based in monitoring sites to the east of Abu Safia area in east Jabalia refugee camp opened fire and launched tear-gas canisters against hundreds of Palestinians who joined the Great Return March demonstration in the area. Two demonstrators, including one child, were injured. Both casualties were caused by live fire that him them in the lower limbs. Their injuries were moderate, according to medical sources at the Indonesia Hospital. Field-based medical teams provided treatment to a number of demonstrators who suffered from breathing difficulties amid Israeli forces’ heavy use of tear gas.
