At 4pm on Friday, 18 May 2018, Israeli forces based in monitoring sites opened fire and launched a large number of tear gas canisters at hundreds of unarmed Palestinians who joined the Great Return March demonstration in the east of Al Shuhada cemetery in east Jabalia refugee camp in North Gaza district. Six protesters were injured, with their wounds ranging from moderate to serious as reported by doctors at the Indonesia, Al Awda, and Kamal Adwan hospitals. One of the casualties sustained wounds in the leg by live fire and four by tear gas canisters, and the sixth suffered from tear gas inhalation. Field-based medics provided the necessary treatment to other protesters who suffered from inhaling tear gas. The shooting continued until the evening of the same day.
