At 1pm on Wednesday, 18 April 2018, Israeli forces located on the eastern borders of Malaka area in eastern Al Zaitoun neighborhood in eastern Gaza city opened fire and launched tear-gas grenades at tens of Palestinian youth joining the “Great Return March” demonstrations, held to demand Palestinian refugees’ right to return to their homes from which they were expelled in 1948 and 1967. A number of protesters, including a child, were injured by live ammunition, rubber-coated steel bullets, and tear-gas grenades employed by Israeli forces in policing the demonstration. Doctors at Al Shifa hospital assessed casualties to range from light to moderate. Israeli shooting continued until 7pm on the same day.
