On Friday, 22 September 2017, at 2 am, Mustafa Fayeq Salman, a 16-year-old resident of Beit Lahia, died in Al-Quds Hospital in southern Gaza City. According to Al Mezan's field investigations, Mustafa had been detained at a police station in Beit Lahia since 2 July 2017 after engaging in a feud that turned physical. He was held with adult detainees. While in detention, he submitted a request to spend the Eid holidays with his family, but it was rejected. At 16:30 on Saturday, 2 September 2017, Mustafa committed suicide by using his clothes to hang himself in the bathroom of the police station.
