Short Link:
Name: Maria Mohamed Awad Abu Jazar
Date of birth: 11 April 2013
Date of death: 3 August 2014
Maria from Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip was a sweet child. Her siblings spent hours playing with her. Her parents had a hard time deciding between naming her Mariam or Maria. She only could say ‘mama and papa’. “I felt tremendous happiness when I heard her say papa,” Maria’s father said. He is 25 years old.
At night, on 3 August 2014, three missiles from Israeli warplanes hit Mohamed Abu Jazar’s house without prior warning. The house was completely destroyed. Three people were immediately killed including Maria at the age of one, her brother and her mother; and her father were seriously injured.
