Fatma Ahmed Al Arja
Date of birth: 24 July 2000
Date of death: 21 July 2014
13-year-old Fatma Ahmed Al Arja from Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip was sociable, considerate, and a funny girl. She was not a stellar student. She liked to imitate people, particularly women and how they dance at wedding parties.
On 21 July 2014, just before dawn, Fatma and her mother prepared some sweets for the Ramadan break fast. Fatma then went to her uncle’s house to see her cousins. An Israeli warplane targeted the girls, killing Fatma. “After losing my darling daughter I feel the house is empty,” says her mother A’eda, 40.
