14-year-old Khaled Zeyad Sa’eed Al Hendi from Khan Younis was a smart boy and quite gifted at math; he used to do really well in the math competitions that he entered. He had also managed to memorize 18 chapters of the Quran. “He was especially close to me. I used to encourage him to study hard so that he could be successful when he grew up,” said his mother. Outside of his studies, he liked playing football and swimming.
On 29 July 2014, Khaled was standing in front of his front door when his neighbor’s house was attacked. He sustained serious injuries in the attack and died nine days later.
