Tha’er Ahed Shamali was a courageous 17-year-old boy from Gaza. Even though he had a strong personality he always did what his parents told him to do. He wanted to be a trader when he grew up. He was very generous and would always share his pocket money with his siblings. His mother said, “when we went to visit Tha’er’s grave, his brother tried to open his grave. He called out to him saying, ‘please wake up. Come with me’ ”.
On 24 July 2014, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a group of people gathering in the street. As a result, Tha’er was injured. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Al Shifa hospital.
