Date of birth: 10 January 2008
Date of death: 28 July 2014
6-year-old Baraa Akram Meqdad from Al Shatee refugee camp, Gaza City, was described by his family as being a ‘lovely’ young boy and a ‘sharer’; he’d always share his toys with his friends and his sisters and brothers. He was doing very well at school and had been awarded a number of prizes for his work. He was really afraid during the Israeli assault and his mother kept him indoors during that time. On the first day of Eid, however, Baraa’s mother let him out for the first time during the war to go to the street to play with his friends. They were targeted by an Israeli warplane. Baraa was killed instantly, along with other 9 other children and an older man. “His mother cries all the time. She usually asks her daughters to prepare food for Baraa,” the father said.
