Date of Birth: 22 June 1997
Date of Death: 12 July 2014
Seventeen-year old Anas Yousif Qandil from Jabaliya refugee camp was said to be the soul of the house. He was a joker, but sometimes shy, and always a popular child. He had many friends. He was obsessed with motorcycles. “His ambition was to be a dentist or a nurse in the future because his father wished it,” said his mother, 36.
On 12 July 2014, Anas’ neighbours received a phone call from an Israeli authority asking them to evacuate their house as it would be attacked. The neighbors went out to the street along with the Qandil family. Anas, his father and three others took shelter under a tree, but they were targeted by an Israeli missile. Five people were killed, including Anas and his father and another two were injured. “The house is empty and boring without them, they were making our life livable”. “My children ask me every day when their father and Anas will be back,” his mother said.
