One-year-old Abderahman from Al Jorn area in Jabalia town in the north of the Gaza Strip always made his family very happy. He had distinct characteristics. His uncle who played with him said, “he was close to our hurts and was very funny”. “He used to hide when he heard the sounds of explosions,” said his grandmother.
On 24 July 2014, the adjacent Salah Al Din mosque was targeted by Israeli warplanes. “Concrete blocks and columns fell on our house,” said his grandmother. Many people were killed, including Abderahman. His body was the last body to be recovered from beneath the rubble. It was very hard for his family to accept his death.
