At approximately 2:30 pm on Friday 21 February 2014, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) fired live ammunition and launched tear gas at tens of Palestinian youth and children who were near the separation fence east of the Islamic Cemetery east of Jabaliya, in the North Gaza district.
The shooting continued until 5:40 pm.
As a result, 12 Palestinians were injured; among them two children and a photographer, eight of them sustained injuries from live ammunition and four others were injured by tear gas canisters.
Three of the injuries were carried to Al Shefa hospital in Gaza and the rest were admitted to Kamal Adwan hospital.
Al Mezan has identified their names as follows:
Mohammed Medhat Hellsa, 16, was injured by a gas canister in the head; medical sources at Al Shifa hospital described his injuries as critical;
Abdallah Salah Al Shrfai, 17, sustained a bullet wound in his left leg;
Khaled Atef As-Sabbah.
20, the photographer in Mashareq agency, sustained a bullet wound in his right leg his injury was described as critical;
Wael Omar Anshasi, 20, sustained a bullet wound in his right leg, this injury was described as critical;
Saleem Hussain Al Ghmari, 25, sustained a bullet wound in his left leg; medical sources in Kamal Adwan described his injury as critical and referred him to Al Shefa hospital;
Ahmed Yasser Afana, 19, sustained a bullet wound in his right leg;
Ibrahim Kamal Al Ghandor, 23, sustained a bullet wound in his left leg;
Ahed Imad Battah, 28, sustained a bullet wound in his left leg;
Ahmed Yousif Abu Sharee’a, 21, sustained a bullet wound in his left hand;
Jehad Issam Zaqout, 18, was injured by a gas canister in his right shoulder;
Monzer Nasser As-Sahhar, 21, was injured by a gas canister in his head; and
Ahmed Kamal Al Sakani, 23, was injured by a gas canister in his head; medical sources at Kamal Adwan hospital described their injuries as minor.
According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, Palestinian youths and children approach the border line and throw stones at the Israeli soldiers inside the borders, and as a respond, the Israeli soldiers open fire and launch tear gas at them.
The weekly repetition of this incident took a form of a peaceful protest against the access restricted areas east of Jabaliya
