Since 21 August 2003, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) murdered 12 Palestinians in air attacks.
The extra-judicial killings were carried out according to a list of targets established by the Israeli Government.
Following is a list of the recent assassination attacks carried out by Israel over the last nine days.
Thursday 21 August 2003
At around 1:15 pm, two Israeli helicopter gun-ships fired five missiles directly into the car of Ismail Abu Shanab, a senior political leader of Hamas, killing him and two people on the spot, and injuring dozens of others.
The attack took place near the UNRWA Headquarters in the Governorate Street in Gaza City.
Following is a list of the deceased :
Ismail Hasan Abu Shanab, aged 53;
Mu’min Muhammad Baroud, aged 24,
Hani Majid Abu Al Umreen, aged 23.
Sunday 24 August 2003
At around 9:45 pm, the IOF fired missiles onto a group of Palestinians at Gaza City beach.
Four people were killed, as a result.
According to the Israeli media, one of the victims appeared on the black list published by the Israeli Government.
Below are the names and ages of the Palestinians who died in this attack:
Ahmad Rushdi Ishtiwi, aged 24, from Gaza City;
Waheed Hamid Al Hams, aged 20, from Rafah;
Muhammad Kan’an Abu Libdeh, aged 21, from Rafah;
Ahmad Muhammad Abu Hilal, aged 23, also from Rafah;
In addition, two bystanders were wounded and taken to hospital; Muhammad Uthman Ghanim, aged 20, and Yousif Al Hafi, aged 50, both are from Gaza City.
Tuesday 26 August 2003
At around 6:45 pm, the IOF helicopters bombarded a civilian car with missiles near the Al Saftawi Junction, southeast of Jabalia.
According to the investigations carried out by Al Mezan, three people were in the car at the moment of the attack and managed to escape.
One old man was killed in the attack, Younis Hasan Al Hamalawi, aged 75.
In addition, 23 people were wounded, 2 with critical wounds.
On the next day, 14-year-old Muhammad Ibrahim Balusha died at the hospital.
Thursday 28 August, 2003
At approximately 9:50 pm, the IOF bombarded an animal cart in the Al Barqi Street in the southwest of Khan Younis.
Hamdi Adnan Kalakh, aged 24, was killed in the attack.
Eyewitnesses reported that a missile hit the cart directly killing Kalakh and wounding three bystanders.
Saturday 30 August, 2003
According to Al Mezan fieldwork unit, the latest attack took place on 30 August 2003, at around 3:50 pm when helicopter gun-ships fired four missiles on a car near the An Nuerirat refugee camp in the middle of the Gaza Strip.
Mahmoud Ali Aqil, aged 37, and Faird Yousif Mayas, aged 40, were killed.
Four bystanders were wounded.
The Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns these extra-judicial, deliberate killing, which reflect a consistent and systematic assassination policy of the Israeli Government.
Such crimes constitute grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civil Persons in Time of War, and the international human rights standards.
These acts necessitate effective pursuit of those who ordered and perpetrated these crimes in order to bring them to justice.
Al-Mezan calls upon the international community to end its silent complicity and fulfill its legal and moral obligations toward the civilian population of the OPT.
It is the international community’s responsibility to put an end to such crimes and to provide effective protection for civilians in the OPT.
