In May 2011, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights organized three training courses on human rights, international humanitarian human rights law and protection mechanisms.
The first course was held jointly with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the House of Wisdom at the Roots Restaurant from 3 to 5 May 2011.
This course targeted 29 university students.
The second course was held in cooperation with the East Gaza Association at the Association's office in the Az-Zaitoun neighborhood in the east of Gaza city.
The course was held from 24 to 26 May 2011 and targeted about 29 women in this marginalized area.
The third course was held at Al Mezan's office in Gaza between 29 and 31 May 2011 and targeted 23 persons who work in the field of psychosocial support.
The courses introduced the participants to a variety of human rights topics; including an introduction to human rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, Convention on Child Rights, the impacts of violence against women and children, an introduction of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), IHL basic principles, and the protection of children and women under IHL.
At the end of each course, speakers from Al Mezan and the partner organizations spoke about the purposes and content of the content of the courses.
Participants were encouraged to use the acquired knowledge and skills in their life.
Representatives from Al Mezan and its partners handed certificates to the participants.
Moreover, in May 2011, Al Mezan held another two training workshops between10 and 17 May 2011.
These workshops targeted teachers and parents and focused on various topics such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child Rights, the concepts of rights and duties, the values of the non violent, positive behavior in dealing with children, and a general introduction to human rights.
These courses and workshops came in the context of the relentless and ongoing activities of Al Mezan to spread human rights and democracy awareness in a way that enhances society capacities.
These courses and workshops aim to create a rich environment that embraces tolerance, justice, the rule of law, and the respect of human rights in the Palestinian society.
