Short Link:
The number of victims resulting from the insecurity within Palestinian society has augmented; 3 people were killed and 12 injured during armed clashes between Hamas and Fatah supporters in Khan Younis.
According to Al Mezan's investigations, on May 8th several kidnappings of Fatah and Hamas supporters took place in Beni Sohela in eastern Khan Younis.
The hostages were released after interventions by both sides calmed the situation, however at approximately 3.
30am Hamas supporter Wasfi Shahwan was found dead in downtown Khan Younis, shot in the back.
Tension arose between Hamas and Fatah supporters in Abasan town and Beni Sohela when armed clashes erupted, killing two Fatah supporters Abdurrahman Al Doghma, 26, and Mohammad Al Jorf, 25, and injuring 12 others.
Anxiety and tension prevail in Khan Younis and in eastern areas including around the Nasser and European Hospitals in Khan Younis City; such an atmosphere is likely to result in renewed clashes between supporters.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns this ongoing state of insecurity, and expresses its profound sorrow and regret for the loss of citizens.
It also calls upon Hamas and Fatah leaderships to end the crisis and reduce tension between their supporters.
Additionally, Al Mezan calls upon the PNA to start investigations surrounding the incident and bring perpetrators to justice; the Centre asserts that Hamas and Fatah should provide assistance to conduct a more credible and impartial investigation and should not protect their supporters if found guilty.
Further, Al Mezan reaffirms its previous positions which state that the lack of proper investigation and the ongoing impunity only encourage similar incidents.
