Short Link:
The IOF have intensified crimes against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip by targeting vital facilities, destroying bridges on Gaza Valley and the only electricity generator in the territory.
Destruction of the power plant came as the Israeli Electricity Company revealed its intention to disconnect its own electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip.
That would leave the area completely without power.
Eastern areas of Rafah witnessed displacement of people terrified by Israeli weaponry, notably after the IOF threat to launch a punishing war against towns and camps, including in Rafah.
According to Al Mezan's field investigation, on June 27th at approximately 11.
40pm, an Israeli F16 fired a missile at Al Seqqa Bridge which links Al Moghraqa village with Al Nusairat Camp.
The attack resulted in complete destruction of the bridge and caused damage to the main pipe which pumps water to Al Nusairat and Al Bureij Camps.
On June 28th at around 1.
27am, Israeli military planes fired seven air-ground missiles at the electricity generator in Al Nusairat Camp, causing extensive damage.
According to the electricity company it will take between one and three months to repair.
Two men were injured in the bombardment; Zayed Al Shorafa, 43, and Emad Abu Sido, 33.
An administrative building at the station was also damaged.
It is worth noting that under normal conditions the company supplied approximately 60 per cent of the Gaza Strip's population with electricity.
Also on June 28th, at around 2.
24am, IOF fired three missiles at the bridge located on Salah Ed Dine main street, destroying totally.
With this airstrike the IOF have entirely isolated Gaza districts from middle districts in the Gaza Strip.
Vehicles are unable to move between the south and middle districts.
Movement between Gaza and northern districts is similarly restricted.
As a consequence patients and wounded are denied access to Shifa hospital.
The electricity cut off will results in water shortages in all areas of the Gaza Strip.
This situation is exacerbated by a suffocating closure of all entry and exit points to the territory.
Therefore medicine, food, fuel and gas imports are all suspended.
Markets in the Gaza Strip are depleted from essential goods and food.
The closure of Rafah crossing caused significant suffering for more than a thousand Palestinians left stranded on the Palestinian and Egyptian sides of the border.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns the IOF crimes and confirms that targeting vital civilian infrastructure constitutes a war crime.
It is a grave violation of International Law, notably the Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protections of Civilians Persons in Time of War.
Further, the attacks on civiilian infrastructure constitute a clear escalation of collective punishment demonstrating the IOF disregard to political commitments they must abide by under International Law.
The Center reconfirms that this is one of a string of Israeli war crimes against Palestinian civilians and properties in the OPT.
The silence of the International community is to be condemned because it encourages Israeli war crimes.
Al Mezan hereby confirms that the International Community, most notably the High Contracting Parties to Geneva Convention should undertake their legal obligations and immediately intervene to put a halt to Israeli war crimes.
There is a serious threat of humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip should the IOF continue imposing a tight siege and targeting civilians, properties and vital civil facilities which people cannot live without.
