In the context of the growing internal strife in the Gaza Strip, the combating of which is a large part of Al Mezan’s human rights objectives, the Centre emphasizes the seriousness of the continuing deterioration of the security situation in the Gaza strip.
One Palestinian was killed and another injured during a wedding ceremony, while two lawyers were injured in an attack by armed persons in Gaza City.
Further, a Serbian ophthalmologist narrowly escaped a kidnapping attempt in Jabalia.
According to Al Mezan field sources, on 14 September at approximately 08:30, two unknown armed persons followed the car of a Serbian Ophthalmologist, Boba, in Omar Al Mokhtar Street, in Gaza, as she was on her way to her job in Al Hidan Health and Social Center in Jabalia Refugee Camp.
The two tried to stop her, although Boba continued driving until she arrived at her place of work and began to shout, causing the armed group to escape.
The day before, at approximately 21:00, Brigadier General Mohammed Nour Meflij, 55, was killed, and Mohammed Kamal Wishah was injured, due to shooting at a wedding ceremony in Al Bureij Refugee Camp.
In another incident at approximately 12.
30 on the same day, armed persons opened fire at lawyers Samer Ahmed and Shadi Rabah Abed, while the lawyers were in a car in Al Jalaa Street.
According to medical reports, both lawyers were seriously injured.
The Center condemns this deterioration in the security situation and the rule of law, and affirms that the PNA holds responsibility for not maintaining public security or enforcing the rule of law.
Al Mezan demands the PNA to assume its responsibilities by putting an end to this problem and enforcing the rule of law in Palestinian society as part of its legal obligations to maintain security and discipline.
