Al Mezan Center for Human Rights expresses its deep concern by the IOF targeting of houses in Gaza.
This practice has caused serious damage to civilian wellbeing and property and, in the absence of clear military necessity, constitutes indiscriminate, collective punishment and is contrary to Israel's obligations under international law.
Whereas the Center welcomes the resolution by the Human Rights Council to dispatch a fact-finding mission to the Gaza Strip, it calls upon the international community to condemn the violations of IHL and human rights by Israel, and to provide protection for Palestinian civilians in OPT.
In particular, the Center calls on the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Times of War to uphold their duties and ensure due respect for the Convention in OPT.
