At 4pm on Friday, 3 August 2018, Israeli forces located on the security fence to the east of Al Zaitoun neighbourhood in east Gaza city opened fire at Palestinians joining the Great March Return demonstration in the neighbourhood. Israeli forces’ use of live ammunition, rubber-coated steel bullets, and tear-gas canisters resulted in the killing of Ahmed Yaghi, 25, who was shot with a live bullet in the chest. 35 other protesters, including five children and one paramedic, were injured, 25 of them by live fire. Doctors at Al Shifa Hospital said the casualties ranged in severity from light to moderate. Israeli shooting continued until 7:30pm on the same day.
