At 4pm on Saturday, 9 June 2018, Israeli forces opened live fire and used tear-gas canisters against Palestinians joining the Great Return March Return demonstration near Malaka area in Al Zaitoun neighborhood in east Gaza city. One child was hit by live fire and wounded moderately, as described by doctors at Al Shifa Hospital. The Israeli shooting continued until 7pm on the same day.
