At 2:00pm on Friday, 23 February 2018, Israeli forces located on the southeastern borders of Burij refugee camp opened fire and tear-gassed protesters joining a demonstration in the east of Burij. The demonstration was held in protest of the latest U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Protesters set tires on fire and threw stones at Israeli forces, and Israeli soldiers opened fire and launched tear-gas canisters at protesters, causing the injury of five protesters, whose wounds ranged from light to moderate, as described by doctors at Shuhada Al Aqsa Hospital.
