At 01:00 pm on Friday, 22 December 2017, Israeli occupation forces (IOF) opened fire and fired tear gas canisters at tens of Palestinian young men and children who were participating in a popular event in solidary with Jerusalem and against the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as a capital of Israel. As a result, Mohammed Nabil Mohammed Mheisen, 30, was killed and 47 persons were injured including eight children. Between the wounded, 12 sustained bullet wounds, including three children, 12 sustained wounds of gas canisters including one child, and 23 were suffocated due to inhaling the tear gas, 4 of them were children and six were medics. Medical sources in Al Shifa Hospital described the injuries as serious, moderate and minor. Shooting continued sporadically until 06:00 pm of the same day.
