At approximately 1:30 pm on Tuesday, 26 April 2016, Israeli gunboats opened fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of Al Waha area, west of Beit Lahia in North Gaza, then arrested two fishermen and confiscated their boat and fishing nets; The fishermen were: Monis Abed Ramadan Zayed, 39; and ‘Ahid Ziad Mahmoud Zayed, 39, both residents of Al Salateen Area in Beit Lahiya.

‘Ahid Zayed told Al Mezan that he and his friend Monis were sailing onboard his small fishing boat and stopped at about 400 meters off the coast and casted their nets; they were far from the northern border at about 2500 meters.  Suddenly, Israeli gunboat opened fire at their boat and then a rubber boat approached them. Israeli soldiers forced fishermen to take off their clothes and swim to the Israeli rubber boat where they were handcuffed, blindfolded and detained. The Israeli soldiers cut the fishing nets and towed the fishing boat westward. After that, the fishermen were taken to Ashdod seaport and then to Erez crossing where they were interrogated. The fishermen were released at 9:00 pm via Erez crossing; while there boat and fishing nets remained confiscated.

According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, Israeli occupation forces (IOF) destroyed two fishing nets and confiscated three others with the boat.
