At approximately 4:00 pm on Wednesday 17 August 2011, Gaza police banned the Sharek Youth Forum from having Ramadan breakfast (iftar) in the Haifa Restaurant  in the Al Sheikh 'Ijleen beach, west of Gaza city.
A person claiming he was from the Az-Zahra city police station telephoned the restaurant administration and instructed it 'to cancel the fast-breaking meal; otherwise, the restaurant administration would be held responsible'.
The restaurant administration informed Mr.
Mar'e Bashir, the coordinator of the forum, of the decision by the Gaza police.
At approximately 5:00 pm on the same day, Mr.
Arafat Jayyab called Mr.
Mar'e, introduced himself as a member of the Gaza police, and informed him of the decision cancelling the iftar.
The Sharek Youth Forum had intended to hold a Ramadan fast-breaking for the forum volunteers and to honor about 25 volunteers who had won in the National Festival to Honor Palestinian Volunteers.
Following the developments described above, the Sharek Forum cancelled the activity.
