Cairo 25 April 2011     The Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) expresses its deep concern for the continued illegal detention of Kamel Al Talou', Al Jazeera cameraman, in Libya by the Gaddafi regime.
Al Talou' is originally from Libya and was detained with three of his colleagues, were released after intervention by their home countries.
The clear international failure to intervene to release Al Talou' exacerbates the concerns of the AOHR as the Gaddafi regime might justify Al Talou's detention for an unlimited period of time because of his national origin.
The critical situation that Al Talou' could be subjected to whilst in detention, exacerbates the concerns of the AOHR, particularly in the context of the negative human rights record of the Libyan regime.
The Gaddafi regime has detained Al Talou’ without observing the legal procedures that provide protection for him under the law.
The AOHR condemns the continuous detention of Al Talou', who was detained for doing his job, by the Libyan authorities.
The AOHR calls on the UN Secretary General to promptly intervene to release him and to ensure his safety.
