The Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) reiterates its condemnation of the crimes against humanity that continued to be committed by Colonel Gaddafi’s regime against the rebels in Libya.
According to Libyan and international estimates, between two and three thousand civilians have been killed in the country.
The Gaddafi forces and mercenaries used heavy artillery, tanks, and anti-aircraft weapons against civilian objects and civilian residential neighborhoods.
They also used this weaponry in confronting some of the rebels who held small arms to defend themselves against the cold-blooded killings by Gaddafi forces and mercenaries.
AOHR expresses its appreciation of the positions of the Egyptian and Tunisian governments, who opened their borders for the flows of refugees and international citizens as they escaped the terrible crimes of the Libyan regime.
AOHR calls on the two governments to take measures to facilitate finding solutions for those refuges who lost their identification documents.
AOHR also calls on the international community to provide the necessary supplies for the two governments to help them to deal with the current burdens and challenges.
AOHR welcomes the UN Human Rights Council’s resolution and its intention to initiate an international investigation into the crimes committed in Libya.
It also commends the UN Security Council resolution which imposes a travel ban on Gaddafi, his family, and aides, freezes their bank accounts, and refers their crimes to the International Court of Justice.
AOHR expresses its concern by the Security Council’s declining from responding to the Libyan public demand by imposing a no-fly zone over Libya to prevent Gaddafi from using warplanes to attack civilians and prevent the flow of foreigner machineries who arrive in the country every day.
     AOHR calls on the Security Council to reconsider this option, which is of great importance for the protection of civilians and achieving the purposes of the international resolutions.
At the same time, AOHR stresses that the imposition of a no-fly zone over Libya must not include any foreign military intervention on Libya’s soil, as has been emphasized by Libyans demands.
