On Monday, 12 May 2014, the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights concluded its annual “Pass the Word” student training and academic program for the thirteenth consecutive year.
The program, which raises awareness of young people in the Gaza Strip on the basics of international law, ran for a full year, as implemented by Al Mezan’s training and mass communication unit.
Pass the Word contains theoretical and practical components within the program, with classes on the basics of democracy, human rights and international law.
The students are also trained on communication techniques and methods of moderating group discussions and given resources with which to raise awareness on their campuses.
The participating students learned about the principles of democracy, the rule of the law, frameworks of governmental powers, international human rights conventions, and operating mechanisms of international human rights law.
Mrs.
Shirin Ash-Shobaki, the Coordinator of the Training and Mass Communication Unit at Al Mezan, concluded the program by thanking the 31 participants for their commitments and interaction.
