In the latest instance of their continued war crimes against the Palestinian population of the OPTs, the Israeli occupation forces murdered five Palestinians in the West Bank yesterday, Saturday 31 August 2002.
Israeli sources said that these forces targeted Saleem Abu Syaj, a Hamas activist.

In addition, two children were killed in the attack.
Eyewitnesses said the children were among a group playing near the road.
The two children are: the 7-year-old girl Bahira Ibrahim Daraghmeh and the 10-year-old boy Usama Burhan Daraghmeh.
Both died from shrapnel.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights thoroughly condemns the assassination of Palestinians, which constitute war crimes and grave violations of the international human rights law and norms, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, of 12 August 1949.
The Center calls upon the international community to end its state of silence and to provide immediate protection to the civilian population of the OPTs.
The international community is obliged to fulfill the legal responsibilities towards the Palestinian civilians and to bring those responsible for such crimes to justice.
