At 12:20pm on Thursday, 28 June 2018, doctors at the European Gaza Hospital announced the death of Abdulfattah Abu Azzoum, 17-year old resident of Rafah. His death followed his injury in the head by shrapnel in an attack by Israeli artillery at 3:20am earlier on the same day. The attack was launched against a group of Palestinians who tried to sneak beyond the fence between east Rafah and Israel. Fouad Ayash, 16-year old of Zalata area in east Rafah, was also injured in the attack. Both casualties were first taken to Abu Yousef Al Najar Hospital. Due to the critical injury of Abu Azzoum, he was referred to the European Gaza Hospital, where succumbed to his wounds.
