At approximately 1:20 am on Thursday 10 July 2014 an Israeli warplane fired a missile at the house of Mahmoud Al Haj (57), which is located in Block 'J' in the Khan Younis refugee camp in the south of the Gaza Strip. The house consists of a ground floor and is about 100 square meters in area. The house was completely destroyed while its residents were inside. Eight people were killed, including two children. Several adjacent houses sustained severe damage and 23 people were injured due to the scattering of debris. Houses in refugee camps in the Gaza Strip are usually small, close together and poorly constructed. Yasser was at home with his brothers when at 12:30 am his parents and three sisters returned from a visit to his uncle's house, which is nearby in the refugee camp. Yasser then decided to see friends in the neighbourhood on the Ramadan night and left the house. He was on his way back when he saw the attack on his house, which killed his relatives.
