Israeli Forces Open Fire at Palestinian Protesters in Northern Gaza City, Injuring Six

At 01:00 pm on Friday, 19 January 2018, Israeli forces opened fire and fired tear gas canisters at tens of Palestinian young men and children who were  protesting near the eastern borders, east of Al Shuhada cemetery in eastern Jabalia, and those demonstrating near the northern borders of Beit Lahia.  Palestinian factions called for protests against the latest US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Six persons, including one child, were injured in clashes. Medical staff in the Indonesian and Beit Hanoun Hospitals reported that their injuries ranged from moderate to serious. According to Al Mezan’s monitoring, the six persons sustained gunshots in different parts of their bodies, and some other persons were treated in the field. Clashes continued until evening hours on the same day.
