IOF Continue their Aggression against Palestinian civilians

8 February 2004

Less than 24 hours after the latest extra-judicial execution in Gaza city, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) killed two Palestinians and injured 11 in the Gaza Strip.
At approximately 4 am on Sunday February 8, 2004, about 20 Israeli tanks and armored vehicles entered the As-Salam neighborhood in Rafah, southern the Gaza Strip, under the cover of helicopter gun ships.
They imposed a curfew on the area and surrounded the house of Ashraf Adnan Abu Libdeh.
According to the affidavit of an ambulance driver, the Palestinian Liaison Office notified Rafah’s Abu Yousif An-Najjar hospital that the IO F requested an ambulance to collect a wounded person from the area.
An Israeli officer told the ambulance team that there was a body behind the surrounded house.
32-year-old Ashraf Adnan Abu Libdeh was found dead on the ground.
The ambulance team reported that they did not see any weapons near the body.
Ten people were also wounded in this incursion, one of whom is a four-year-old child.
In a separate incident, IOF shot two youths at the barrier between Israel and the Gaza Strip, at around 10:30 pm Saturday February 7, 2004.
19-year-old Hasan Abu Zarqa was killed while Salih Ata Al-Amassi was wounded.
The latter reported to the Center that he and his companion were trying to enter Israel to find jobs and they did not have any kind of arms.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights is highly concerned for Israel’s continued violations of human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) which cause losses of civilian life and property on a daily basis.
The Center calls upon the International Community to intervene and provide effective protection for Palestinians in the OPT.
