At 4pm on Friday, 12 October 2018, Israeli forces located in east Malaka area in east Al-Zaitoun neighborhood in east Gaza City used live ammunition and tear gas canisters on Palestinians joining the Great Return March demonstration in the area. Two protesters were killed. Afifi Mahmoud Afifi, 18-year-old resident of Al-Shati’ refugee camp in west Gaza City, was lethally wounded in the chest with a live bullet. Mohammed Issam Abbas, 21-year-old resident of northwest Gaza City, was wounded in the head with a live bullet at 6:20pm and was pronounced dead of his injury at 9:50pm while at Al-Shifa Hospital in west Gaza City. 121 protesters were also injured in the Israeli forces’ shooting. Of the injured were 28 children, four women, and one journalist. 69 of the casualties sustained wounds by live ammunition. Doctors at the Al-Shifa Hospital stated their wounds ranged from light and moderate to serious.
