At 4pm on Friday, 3 August 2018, Israeli forces located behind sand dunes near the security fence to the east of Khuza’a area in east Khan Younis opened fire at thousands of Palestinians who joined the Great Return March demonstration organized about 300 meters away from the fence. The Israeli forces used live ammunition and tear-gas canisters in attacking protesters, who raised Palestinian flags, and continued shooting until 7pm on the same day. 27 protesters, including 10 children and three women, were injured by live ammunition and tear-gas canisters that hit them directly. Casualties received first aid at field-based clinics and then were referred to Naser, Algerian, and European Gaza hospitals. Tens of other protesters who suffered from breathing difficulties due to tear gas received the necessary treatment at the field-based clinics.
