At 2pm on Monday, 14 May 2018, Israeli forces located on the security fence between Israel and the Gaza Strip used live ammunition, plastic-coated steel bullets, and tear-gas canisters against Palestinian children, youth and women joining the Great Return March demonstration in east Rafah city. Four Palestinians were killed, and 214 others were injured, including 41 children and 18 women. Of them, 81 were wounded by live fire, 41 by shrapnel, and 80 by inhaled tear gas. Medical sources have confirmed that 16 of these casualties are in critical condition. The deaths are: Mohammed Abdulaal, 38-year old shot with live fire in the chest; Ahmed Al-Tatar, 27-year old shot with live fire in the right shoulder; Motasem Abu Louli, 20-year old shot with live fire in the head; and Ali Kafaja, 21-year old shot with live fire in the head. Farhan Abu Hadayed, 26-year photojournalist working for Rowwad Al-Haqiqa, was shot with live fire in the left leg.
