Shaima’a’s mother was nine months pregnant with her when an Israeli warplane targeted the home in the early morning hours of 25 July 2014. The expectant mother was asleep in her bed at the time. Shaima’as mother’s body was recovered from the rubble although she died in the attack. The doctors rescued Shaima’a who lived only for five days in the intensive care unit.
“We had hoped that Shaima’a would survive and live longer than just one week. Our life turned 180 degree after the deaths of Shima’a and her mother,” said Shaima’a’s aunt Maha, 32.
