Date of birth: 5 October 2010
Date of death: 3 August 2014
Aya Mohammed Abu Rijil from Rafah liked to play with her dolls. She pretended that the dolls were her children. She was waiting for the war to end so that she could go to kindergarten. “Her death negatively affects her twin sister Duaa. She is afraid to lose me as she lost her sister,” says her mother Mervat, 29.
On 3 August 2014, Israeli warplane attacked an area near an UNRWA school that was being used as a shelter. Aya’s family had relocated there. As a result, Aya and her brother Munzer, 6, were killed. They were on their way to the bathroom. Aya was three years old.
