Date of death: 1 August 2014
Seventeen-year-old Aseel from Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip was the first child of her parents. She was a responsible and sociable girl, taking care of the house and her younger siblings. She was anxious to join university. Her ambition was to be a psychologist, just like her mother. “She was very close to me, she was my friend,” her father said.
On 1 August 2014, there a truce was agreed. Aseel, her sister, and her father headed to their house to gather some belongings. Israel violated the truce. While walking, Israeli tanks directly opened fire on them. Aseel sustained two shots and was immediately killed. “Only four days later could we recover her body,” her father added.
