16-year-old Zeyad Maher Mohamed Al Najjar from Khan Younis was an independent young man. He even liked to cook his own meals. He loved playing football. He played for his school team and supported FC Barcelona. He was doing well in school and was particularly good at math. He hoped to become a police officer after finishing his studies.
On 14 July 2014, Zeyad was riding his motorbike to buy some food when he was targeted by an Israeli drone. His mother heard the explosion and then a neighbor came to tell her that someone riding a motorbike had been hit. Zeyad’s mother knew right away it was him. “I felt that something bad had happened when I heard the explosion. When a neighbor came to tell me that a motorcycle had been hit, I knew it was my son,” she says.
