Nine-year-old Basel Salem Husein Kwaree from Khan Younis was an active and energetic boy who was always happy to help with the daily tasks like going to the shops and filling up the drinking-water containers. He was getting on well at school and liked playing football in his spare time.
On 7 August 2014, Basel, along with other children, went to Mahdi Kwaree’s house to act as human shields in an attempt to prevent Israeli forces from targeting the home. The Israeli forces targeted the house. Seven children were killed including Basel.
“Before he was killed, he was really happy, just running around and playing,” said his mother.
