Eleven-year-old Saher from the area of Al-Mahattah in Deir Al Balah in the middle of the Gaza Strip was an active and brave child. His hobby was raising birds. He liked to play football and was a big fan of Lionel Messi. His best friend was his cousin Sobhi. He was said to have not shown any fear during the war. “The day before his death, he helped me open an account on Facebook. And he posted many photos of his and also music,” said his father.
At noon, on 20 August 2014, Saher and a group of his relatives were on their way to an UNRWA school shelter on Salah El-Din Street. An Israeli drone missile directly targeted them without prior warning. Saher and his cousin Mohamed, 11, were immediately killed in the attack. Many others were seriously injured.
