Mohamed from Al Sheja’eiah in the east of Gaza City was said to be a spoiled child. He was born after eight years of his parents’ marriage. He was beloved and close to everyone in the family, particularly his aunts. “Mohamed’s mother wished to see Mohamed an educated man, having a prestigious position in society,” said his aunt (27).
On 20 July 2014, the Israeli shelling intensified in Al Shujai’a and the Ayyad family attempted to flee. While seeking shelter, they were struck by Israeli shells. Many civilians were killed. Mohamed was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital. He died in the hospital after a while from his injuries. He was five months old. “Every time I see any child, I remember Mohamed and I start to cry,” added his aunt.
