Ten-year-old Mahmoud from Gaza City was a smart and active child. He liked playing computer games and football. He was described as a genius student, especially at math. He was close to his mother and used to help her around the house. He was very ambitious about his future. “He had allergies, so he needed his medicine all the time to live a normal life,” said his mother.
On 21 July 2014, during an intense Israeli bombardment, Mahmoud's family decided to evacuate their house. When they reached the street, they were directly targeted by an Israeli shell. Mahmoud was seriously injured. He was taken to the hospital. He was unconscious. He underwent a surgery and was transferred to the intensive care unit. But he died of his injuries later the same day.
