Name: Ghada Sobhi Sadi Ayyad

Date of birth: 2  February 2003

Date of death: 20 July 2014

Eleven-year-old Ghada from Al Shujai’a, a suburb of Gaza City, was the youngest child of her siblings. She was a spoiled child and very energetic. She loved drawing, studying, and playing with her toys. She said her dream was to grow up, buy a beautiful dress, go to a hairdresser, and put on makeup.

On 20 July 2014, the Israeli shelling intensified in Al Shujai’a and the Ayyad family attempted to flee. While seeking shelter, they were directly struck by Israeli shells. Many civilians were killed in the shelling, including Ghada  and her mother.  “I lost my father before my mother and brothers, and now I am still injured having shrapnel in my body. I lost one academic year because I stayed in the hospital for a long time. I will travel abroad to get better medical care,” said her sister Deyana, 17.
