11 June 2012
Short Link:
At approximately 8:00 am on Monday 11 June 2012, Israeli gunboats patrolling the Gaza sea opened fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the coast northwest of Al Waha resort—near the maritime border—northwest of Beit Lahiya, North Gaza district.
The firing frightened the fishermen and most sailed to land immediately.
However, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) ships surrounded and stopped the boat of Jihad Basher Abu Riyala, 22, who was on board with his brother Mohammed, 18.
The IOF then ordered the two men to take off their clothes and shouted verbal abuse at them.
After two hours the IOF withdrew from the area.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
