At approximately 5:30 am on Saturday 7 January 2012, an Israeli gunboat stopped a Palestinian fishing boat about four nautical miles opposite the buoys between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) arrested four fishermen who were on board and confiscated the boat.
Al Mezan has identified the persons detained as follows:
· Jad Othman Fares Baker, 36;
· His brother Tala’t Othman Fares Baker, 47;
· Mahmoud (Hesham) Yihya Othman Baker, 25; and
· Rani Sami Omar Baker, 31.
All of them are from Gaza district.
The IOF took them to an Israeli site where they were detained and interrogated.
At approximately 11:30 pm on the same day, the IOF released them at Erez crossing.
The IOF confiscated the boat, fishing nets, and equipment.
