At midday on Monday 1 March 2010, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF), positioned at the north separation fence, opened fire on protestors taking part in the weekly demonstration against the 'security buffer zone' near the fence.
To express their solidarity with Palestinian farmers who live near the borders, volunteers from the ‘Local Initiative’ in Beit Hanoun decided to organize a weekly demonstration, with the support of internationals.
Saber Az-Za'anin, the director of the 'Local Initiative' said to Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights at app.
11:30am on Monday 1 March 2010, that a group of Palestinians and internationals moved towards the northern borders and stopped few meters away from the cement wall.
The demonstrators waved the Palestinian flags and two representatives of the political parties delivered a speech.
As Az-Za'anin began his Hebrew speech which was directed to the Israeli government; the IOF stationed in one of the cement monitoring towers shouted and fired at the demonstrators.
Demonstrators left the area immediately.
In his speech Az-Za'anin said the Palestinian people have the right to live and to, plant our lands in these areas, and that this was a peaceful gathering to protest against the Israeli decisions.

No casualties or injuries were reported in this incident.
