Summary of issues raised by the public
Participants raised the following main points:
آ Education is a basic right and the PA must take all appropriate steps to ensure the best possible standards of education.
Education should be free and compulsory at the primary school level.
Fees must be totally removed, and parents must send their children to school.
The PA is obliged to follow these principles.
Classrooms are overcrowded in the Gaza Strip.
This affects the teaching/learning process at schools.
Curricula and textbooks should be reviewed to make sure they are relevant to Palestinian students, culture and environment and that they are up to date.
There are no schools in some areas; therefore, parents ban children, particularly girls, from joining school.
The Ministry should review democratic behavior of school headmasters in harmony with â€کequal opportunity and justice principles,.
Teachers suffer from low salaries, which affects their performance.
Besides basic education, more attention should be paid to higher education.
