23 January 2007
The state of insecurity has escalated severely since the beginning of 2007, killing people and damaging public facilities, including press offices in the Gaza Strip.
29 persons have been killed, among them 4 women and 2 children, during the current month.
Al Arabiya's Gaza bureau and Al Waha resort were also bombed last night.
In the last few days it has been reported that three women were killed, Gaza's offices of Al Arabiya and MBC Satellite Channels located in Al Shorooq tower were bombed - causing damage to the building and the adjacent Reuters' bureau, and fire shooting renewed in Beit Hanoun.
No casualties were reported from the latter.
Further, early this morning, Al Waha resort's lobby was bombed after chaining the guards and stripping their guns.
Al Mezan reported that 29 persons were killed, among them 4 women and 2 children; 166 were injured, including 24 children; 47 were kidnapped, among them a foreign journalist; and 12 institutions were attacked, including 4 public facilities.
Additionally, phone lines and electricity connecting networks were stolen, re-routing electricity.
As electricity is still scarce, following the IOF strike against Gaza's power plant last June, the theft of the connecting networks intensifies shortages and suffering.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights expresses its profound sorrow over the loss of life and the attacks against private properties, public facilities and press offices.
It also denounces the escalation of the violation of the right to life, especially for women.
Further, Al Mezan condemns the theft of phone lines and electrical connecting cables.
It calls upon The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and Ministry of Interior to seriously put an end to internal state of insecurity that is negatively affecting Palestinian lives.
Al Mezan emphasizes the importance of opening serious investigations of law-breaking actions, bringing perpetrators to justice, publicly releasing the outcome of investigations, and overcoming barriers that obstruct the truth.
